Yakushiji Temple - Yasumigaoka-hachiman Shrine
Yasumigaoka-hachiman Shrine is located in south of Yakushiji Temple. In the Heian period, the tutelary deity of Usa-hachiman Shrine was ceremoniously transferred here. The present shrine structures were built in 1603, both the main hall and side halls built on slightly elevated, stacked stone platforms. The main hall enshrines the statues of the Hachiman Trinity (Hachiman-sanjin-zō) (National Treasure), and the side hall houses a painted wooden panel depicting a god (Itae-shin-zō) (Important Cultural Property) worshipped as a divine object (and considered to be an avatar in present days). They are believed to be the guardian gods of Yakushiji Temple and the surrounding villages.
