Shoryaku-ji Temple

正暦寺_紅葉_240517.jpg

It was founded in 992 by Kanetoshi, the son of Kanpaku Kujo Kaneie, at the request of Emperor Ichijo. It was once a large temple with many temples, but now only the main hall, bell tower, and Fukujuin remain. The mountain path that follows the Bodhisengawa mountain stream is lined with moss-covered stone walls, reminiscent of the once magnificent temple temple. It is also known for its beautiful autumn leaves, so much so that it is called "Nishiki no Sato".
