Yagyu Kaido
The Yagyu Kaido is an ancient road that runs from downtown Nara to Yagyu, passing through the valley between Mt. Kasuga and Mt. Takamado. Along the road, there are still Buddhist-derived place names reminiscent of sacred places in India, such as Setarin and Ninnikusen, so it was already used as a mountain Buddhist dojo in the Nara and Heian periods. It is thought that Since the Yagyu Shinkage-ryu school was established about 300 years ago, it is said that samurai warriors seeking the ``Yagyu no Ken'' have traveled along the Yagyu Kaido Road to the Yagyu Village. Depending on the course and location, you can experience various eras, landscapes, and natural expressions. Why not take a trip to Yagyu Kaido? [Recommended course] ①Takisaka Road If you start from downtown Nara City, the first half of Yagyu Kaido is Takisaka Road. There is a cobblestone pavement lined with uneven stones, and it is thought that this is a remnant of renovation work that was carried out to improve the passage of the road around the time when the Yagyu family became the kendo instructors of the Shogun family and became feudal lords. This path, where you can walk while feeling the crisp and clear air and listening to the murmuring of the river and the rustle of the trees, will purify your mind no matter when you visit. ②Swordsman's Path This course runs from Enjo-ji Temple to Kensei no Sato Yagyu. Passing through a village with a nostalgic atmosphere, it continues to the steep slope of Kaeribasa Pass. A particularly recommended point is the rural scenery that stretches out below you. In the spring, the fields look like grasslands, and in the fall, the golden ears of rice are a spectacular sight. The autumn leaves around Enjoji Temple are also very beautiful and mysterious. This is a course that can be enjoyed throughout the year. ③ Yagyu/Kasagi Road This course starts from the Yagyu bus stop, where you can see the legendary Jubei Cedar and the Ataya Stone Buddha, and heads towards JR Kasagi Station, where you can feel the history of Kasagi. This course is recommended for those who want to enjoy it at their own pace, as it still has a unique landscape with many huge and strange stones made of granite.
